DR WALTER S RYDER PASSES IN MICHIGAN
Word of the death of Dr. Walter Scott Ryder, well known student, minister, author and speaker in the Maritime Provinces, has been received here. He died of a heart attack at the age of 64. Dr. Ryder, professor of economics at Central Michigan College, Detroit, was a secretary in the general manager's office of the Intercolonial Railway (CNR) Moncton, prior to attending Acadia University in Wolfville NS, where he obtained his BA degree. He received a bachelor of divinity degree from the University of British Columbia; doctor of philosophy at the University of Chicago; and bachelor of law degree at Lasalle University of Chicago. For 15 years Dr. Ryder was a Baptist minister in the Maritime Provinces, having served in pastorates in various places. He served as recreation director with the United States Army in the First World War and with the American Military Red Cross in the Second World War. He was admitted to the Michigan state bar in 1945. He wrote numerous articles, official reports, and two books, Men and Religion, a Functional Approach, and Introduction to the Science of Society, which were published in 1932 and 1936.
