PERL ROY COREY

(11 Feb 1883 - 13 Dec 1975)

He was twin to Victor, with whom he worked throughout his life at Oyster Bay NY, as "an artisan of the building trade." In his retirement he returned to New Canaan NB. He died in Sussex Hospital, and is buried in New Canaan Cemetery.

For this 50th wedding anniversary, The Oyster Bay Guardian wrote, "During World War One, as a member of Curtiss-Wrights aviation staff, he helped construct the first 'flying boats' which crossed the Atlantic after two earlier attempts. He worked for many years at Fife's Shipyard in Glenwood Landing then at Jacobsen's Yard in OysterBay, where during World War II he helped put out the extraordinary PT boats which revolutionized naval warfare. His carpentry expertise landed him in just about every millionaire's manion on Long Island. He worked on the construction of Teddy Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill, and the President used to come out each morning, calling each by name."

Perl and Gladys "summered" for the last 47 years of their lives at New Canaan NB, where they kept in touch with relatives.

At the age of 92, he and his brother Victor were "recently written about as purportedly the oldest surviving twins in America." At the time of his death he left four daughters, ten grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. [Corey Book]
