WILLIAM THOMAS COREY

(28 Sep 1834 - )

William Thomas was born in New Brunswick, but at the age of six he was sent to Hallowell, Ontario to live with his grandfather, where he remained, by his own statement, until his grandfather died in 1857. He married in Hallowell, where his first child was born in 1857. He moved for a short period to Madoc ON, where a second child was born in 1863. Apparently in 1865 he removed with his family to Ohio, where his father had settled more than ten years before.

In 1880 Thomas was living at 143 Putnam Street in Cleveland OH, with his wife Priscilla, and their two daughters, still living at home. His occupation is given as "bridgeman RR." Priscilla declared that her father was born in New York State, her mother in Canada.

In 1903 William Robinson was seeking information on Coreys throughout North America, and asked William to say a few words about his life. William responded, "after my mother's death my sister and I went to live with our grandparents Corey until old enough to do for ourselves. I learned the wagon maker's trade, and worked at it until 1865, when I went to work at Rail Road Bridging, and have followed it ever since, being in my 39th year with the L.S. & M.S. Ry, and still with them." In 1903 William was living in Toledo OH. He would have been 67 years of age(no old age security then) and it is presumed he died there.
