WILLIAM BELL COREY

(16 May 1826 - Aft 1903)

.In his early days he farmed at New Canaan NB, where he is found in the 1861 census. He served as postmaster there in 1861. In 1891 he was farming at Coles Island. However, shortly after that date, (one source says 1890, which cannot be correct) he removed to Portland ME, and by 1903 was settled in West Gorham ME. From there in 1903, he wrote a letter describing his family, which forms the basis of this article. At that time he wrote that his second wife bore him five children, four sons and a daughter, so there was another son in addition to the three named below, but this son died as an infant. In 1903 he said all his children by his first wife were living, but that only two by his second wife were still alive. These were Grant and Judson. Sarah is buried in the cemetery on Rt. 112 just off 25 in West Gorham ME. It's presumed William is buried there also, but there is no marker for him.
