Burial
Obituary: Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Crowley for Jennings Gates Smith, 91, who died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 4:20 p.m. at Southwest La War Veterans Home in Jennings. Mr. Smith was a native of Ridge and spent many years as a resident of Estherwood. He later moved to Lake Charles and was a resident of the Southwest LA War Veterans Home in Jennings at the time of his death. He owned and operated Smitty's Garage for over thirty years in Crowley. He was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the US Army. Rev. Loyd Singley will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in Indian Bayou Cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Irene Trahan Smith of Lake Charles; four daughters, Pat S. Granger of Lake Charles, Sandra S. Tarou of Sulphur, Diane S. Mouton of Estherwood and Martha S. Farmer of Lake Charles; four sons, Rod Smith of Mermentau, J. P. Smith of Jennings, Steve Smith of Egan and Tony Smith of Estherwood; one step-daughter, Vida Henry of Lake Charles; one step-son, Winfred Broussard, Jr. of Lake Charles; twenty-eight grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Hines and Zora Hoffpauir Smith; one son, Larry Smith; three brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers will be Rod, J. P, Steve, Tony, Greg and Buddy Smith.Endnotes
