H e was born October 24, 1795, and died June 21, 1879. On June 10, 1818 , he married Esther Charlotte Schindler, sister of Susann ah, who wa s the wife of William's older brother, John. Adam Schindler, Esther' s father, signed her marriage bond. William and Esther distinguishe d themselves long after their demise by becoming the great-grandparent s of General Eisenhowe r and his brothers. William was a farmer and c abinetmaker, a skill he passed o n to his eldest son, Peter J. Link . William's eldest child was a daughter, Reb ecca, born March 15, 181 9. She married Peter E. Houff, April 10, 1845. Peter's brother, Willia m A., was to marry Susan Christiana Link, Rebecca's first cousin , th e following year. Many of the Houff and Hulvey names are descended fr om Re becca and Peter. Rebecca preceded her father in death by a few y ears. She and P eter Houff are buried in the Salem Lutheran Church Cem etery. William's next ch ild was a daughter, Louisa Link, who marrie d Samuel Lambert, December 18, 1845. Nothing more is known about her e xcept that she had died before April 19, 1858 , date of her father's w ill in which he does not mention her, but leaves her sh are of his est ate to her children. Elizabeth Juda, named for her aunt and gran dmot her, was born November 19, 1822. She was confirmed in the Salem Luther an Ch urch December 8, 1840, and married Simon Stover December 31, 184 8. Their only d aughter was named Ida Elizabeth and became the bride o f David Eisenhower. Mary Ann Link Beam took Ida Elizabeth west to Kans as nine years after the death of h er father. Elizabeth, her mother, h ad died fifteen years before this change of residence. An almost compl ete Stover genealogy is found in this history, from E lizabeth Juda an d Simon, as well as all of the Eisenhower data. Peter J. Link, Willi am's first son, was born next, his birthday being July 26, 1825. A s a you ng man before marriage, he lived in Rockingham County, where G eorge Utsler, in whose home he resided at the time, lists him as a cab inetmaker in the 1850 cens us, employed. The marriage date of Peter J . Link and Elizabeth E. Kerr has not been found. The first of their tw o children was born in 1857. Both were daughte rs, named Alice, who ma rried Charles Thompson, and Hester, who married William H. Landes. Eli zabeth's name is plainly set out in the marriage license of her d augh ter, Hester. Peter and Elizabeth are buried in the Old Stone Church Ce meter y at Fort Defiance, Virginia. William's next child, a son, wa s his namesake. H e was born March 3, 1827. Augusta County records revea l the birth of six children to their m arriage: Leonard, Adam, Jacob , Ida Margaret, David Paul, and Susan Jane Amanda. Death records indi cate the passing in childhood of Leonard, Jacob, Ida Margare t and Dav id Paul. I can learn nothing about Adam and Susan Jane Amanda, althou g h their father survived their mother. William is admonished in his f ather's wil l "to work the farm for his mother as long as she lives up on such terms as are fair and reasonable." William lived until 1889, b ut his wife, Susan Jane Amanda , died eleven days after the birth of h er youngest child and namesake. The las t child of William and Esthe r was Mary Ann.
