Individual Details
Catherine "Kathrina" Nalewaja
(April 26, 1861 - December 23, 1940)
Katrina had 16 children (6 died and 10 lived) the rest are buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Delano, MN.
Grandma Katrina Nalewaja Wiesner had her leg cut off from a field mower on the farm. The horse went ahead as she was standing in front of the mower, cut the leg off and it kept getting infected, so it had to be cut off three times to stop the infection. No anesthesia, just liquor was available to get Grandma drunk. Her children heard her screaming as this was being done, so the liquor didn't deaden the pain enough. Her prosthesis leg at that time was made of wood and made a stomping noise, as she
walked with it.
