Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond for Donald Schaefer, age 64, who died Tuesday. Inurnment will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery, Richmond, MN. Relatives and friends may call from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond (151 Oakwood Ave. S.E.).
Don was born in New Munich, MN to Leo and Marie (Donnelly) Schaefer. He married Susan Becker on September 16, 1969 in St. Augustine's Catholic Church, St. Cloud. Don was a construction superintendent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, Westerns and his grandson, Jack.
Survivors include his children, Heidi of Los Angeles, CA and Peter of Buena Vista, CO; grandson, John "Jack"; sisters and brothers, Irene Manuel, Rose (Art) Goebel, Robert Schaefer, Allen (Doris) Schaefer and Ralph (Carol) Schaefer. He was preceded in death by his parents.

CLEARWATER The deaths of a husband and his wife who were found Thursday night in their Lynden Township home appears to be a murder-suicide, officials now say.
The names of Donald Paul Schaefer, 64, and Susan Jean Schaefer, 57, were released Saturday morning by Stearns County Chief Deputy Bruce Bechtold.
Saturday afternoon, he said Donald Schaefer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Susan Schaefer died of a gunshot wound as well, "from a handgun we believe they owned," Bechtold said.
The Schaefers lived on Dunmore Circle in Lynden Township. Investigators waited to release the names of the deceased until relatives were notified. "The relatives have been notified. They're in town now," Bechtold said Saturday afternoon.
Family members had not heard from the Schaefers for an extended period and called neighbors to check on them, he said.
The neighbors went to the residence Thursday and were not able to get inside, but they could see the Schaefers inside and that they were unresponsive, Bechtold said. He declined to comment as to a possible motive.
