Sister Mary Joanne (Genevieve) Ahles, 81, died on December 6, 2004, at St. Gabriel's Hospital, Little Falls, Minn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Convent on Thursday, December 9, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at St. Francis Convent on Wednesday, December 8, from 4 - 8:30 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on December 9. Arrangements are by the Shelley Funeral Chapel, Little Falls. A wake service will be held at the Convent at 7 p.m. on December 8.
Sister Mary Joanne was born on July 10, 1923, in Wadena, Minn. She was the last of twelve children born to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Nett) Ahles. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls, Minnesota, on August 12, 1939. She made first profession of vows on August 12, 1941, and final vows on August 12, 1944. She was a Franciscan Sister for 65 years. Sister Joanne ministered in nursing, resident care, home visiting, food service and ministry to prisoners. She served in Perham, Little Falls, Onamia, Fergus Falls, Lastrup, Minn. and Dodgeville and South Milwaukee, Wis.
Sister Joanne was preceded in death by siblings: Norbert, Paul, Melchoir, Frank, Raymond, Sister Mary Assumpta, OSF; Sister Mary Dolores, OSF; Sister Mary Lucina, OSF, and Sister Mary Theophane, OSF. Survivors include her brother, Reverend Jerry, San Miguel, Calif., and her sister, Sister Mary Antonette, OSF, Little Falls; nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan Community. Donations to Franciscan Sisters Ministries preferred.
