Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Avon for Walter P. Zierden, 79, who died Friday. Rev. Blane Wasnie, O.S.B. will officiate . Interment will be in the St. Benedict’s Parish Cemetery, Avon with full military honors provided by St. Cloud VFW Post #428. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2006 and also after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Avon. St. Benedict’s Parish Prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. and the St. Cloud VFW Post #428 will conduct a ritual service at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the church. Arrangements are by the Williams Funeral Home, Avon.

Walter was born to the late Alois and Emma (Ertl) Zierden in New Munich. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1952 in the 25th Infantry Division. He married Lorraine A. Ramacher on May 5, 1953 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Albany. He was employed by Cold Spring Granite and Electrolux Manu-facturing in St. Cloud. Walter also farmed and enjoyed working outdoors and spending time at his family’s cabin. Walter was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and St. Cloud VFW Post #428.

Walter is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children: Gerard (Diane) of Farming; Michael (Lyn) of Holt, FL; Elizabeth (Mark) Hennen of St. Cloud; Dona (Kevin) Ramler of Avon; Stephen of Backus; Shirley Zierden of Avon; Aurora Zeirden of Navarre, FL;15 grand-children and four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Wensmann of Melrose and Ethel Nierenhausen of St. Cloud; two brothers: LeRoy Zierden of Cushing and Ervin Zierden of Melrose.

Walter was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Marie Zierden; brother, Lorenz Zierden and sister, Rita Wensmann.
