Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Otillia A. Jonas, 101, of Melrose who died peacefully Monday, May 7, 2007 at Pine Haven in Pine Villa Care Center, Melrose. Rev. Vince Lieser and Rev. Ebhard Schefers will be concelebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church in Melrose.
Tillie was born December 13, 1905 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Frank and Lena (Schoenborn) Winter. She was united in marriage to Peter J. Jonas on January 29, 1929 at Spring Hill. They lived in Freeport for 12 years and moved to Melrose and later South St. Paul where she worked for Swift & Company for 25 years. She retired in 1969. They moved back to Melrose in 1973. She moved to Pine Villa in 1992. Tillie enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, dancing, playing cards and getting together with family.
Survivors include her sisters- in-law, Sally Winter of Sauk Centre, Hildegard Ricker of Albany, Sister Celine Jonas of Little Falls; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lena Winter; husband, Peter on May 28, 1978; daughter, Elaine Jonas as a child; brothers and sisters, Henry, Arthur, Ervin, Richard, Lawrence, Edward, Alfred, and Sophie Winter, Erma Kunsteleben, Theckla Jonas, Leona Meemken, Sarah Fuchs, and Johanna Schefers.
