Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sauk Centre, for Richard W. Winter who died Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Sunday and from 8-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Richard Winter was born in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, MN, to Frank and Mary (Schoenborn) Winter. He married Marcella "Sally" T. Ostendorf on April 23, 1940, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grey Eagle. They farmed in Spring Hill on the home place for 5 years. In 1946 they moved to a farm in Sauk Centre. They were Feed and Pure Water Inc. Drinking Systems salespersons until they retired and moved to Sauk Centre in Oct. 2000. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella "Sally" of Sauk Centre; children, Donna Hoeschen (Robert) of Freeport, Lawrence "Larry" B. Winter (Rosie) of Sauk Centre, Gerald "Jerry" Winter (Marge) of Foley, Richard "Dick" Winter, Jr. (Kathy) of St. Cloud, Judith "Judy" Doubrava (Delbert) of Sauk Centre and Dennis Winter (Nancy) of Sauk Centre; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Otillia Jonas of Melrose, Leona Meemken of Bemidji, Sarah Fuchs of Lake Henry, Ervin Winter (Ledvina) of Spring Hill on the home farm, and Johanna Schefers of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Henry, Lawrence, Edward, Theckla Jonas, Alfred, Sophia, Erma Kunstleben and Art Winter; and one granddaughter, Shannon Winter.
