Services will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Alma M. Nieland, age 87, formerly of St. Cloud, who died on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Home in Sauk Rapids, MN. Burial will be on Monday in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls with full military honors provided by VFW Post #428 and Waite Park American Legion Post 428. Friends may call between 4-9 p.m. on Friday and after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Waite Park American Legion Post #428 will pray at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud followed by VFW Post #428 Auxiliary at 6:30 p.m., St. Anthony's Christian Women at 6:45 p.m. and St. Anthony's parish prayers at 8 p.m. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Alma was born on February 12, 1915, in Pearl Lake, MN to Joseph and Annie (Eichers) Schaefer. She served in WW II in the WACS. She married Tony M. Nieland on June 19, 1948, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. She lived in St. Cloud all of her married life where she was employed as a lab technician in the optical industry. She was a member of St. Anthony's parish, Christian Women, VFW Post #428 Auxiliary and Waite Park American Legion Post #428.
Survivors include her husband, Tony; children, Ricky (Bonnie) of St. Cloud, Thomas (Barbara) of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Jeremy, Christopher and Nicholas Nieland and sister, Agnes Fischer of St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by her son Arthur in 1972, infant son, Gary, 7 sisters, and 1 brother. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
