Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming, MN for Arnold Mathias Spanier, age 80, who died Thursday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements made by the Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, at the Farming Community Center in Farming. The Catholic Aid Association and St. Joseph Men's Society will pray a rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8:00 p.m.
Arnold was born in Farming to Mathias and Frances (Schmitz) Spanier. He married Isabella Wuertz on September 18, 1945 in St. Margaret Catholic Church, Lake Henry. Arnold farmed near Farming and was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Association and the St. Joseph Men's Society.
Survivors include his wife, Isabella; children, Paulette (Del) Blaske of Scottsdale, AZ, Allen of Topeka, KS, Victoria Spanier (Michael Hege) of Topeka, KS, Duane (Ann) of Avon, Gene (Pam) of Farming, Debbie (Gary) Spanier-Knoll of Brownsville, Nancy Spanier (Ronald Johnson) of St. Cloud, Margaret "Peggy" Spanier (Glen Schiffler) of Avon; brothers and sisters, Roman (Rose) of St. Joseph, Oswald (Adella) of Cold Spring, Dolores Klein of St. Cloud, Dorothy (Wally) Zumwalde of Richmond, Viola (Elmer) Schwinghammer of Albany and Orville (Jeannette) of Farming, and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gilbert, Leonard, Robert, and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann.
