Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 26th at 9:30 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Roman C. Spanier, age 85, of St. Joseph, who died on Wednesday at his home surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Joseph Feders OSB will officiate. Entombment will be in the Parish Mausoleum. Friends may call on Friday between 4:30-9:00 PM and on Saturday after 8:30 AM at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Parish Prayers will be at 6:30 PM followed by St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Council # 7057 at 7:30 PM.
Roman was born December 28th, 1921 in Farming to Mathias and Frances (Schmitz) Spanier. He married Rose Beuning on October 26th, 1943 at St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church in rural Freeport. Roman farmed near St. Joseph for eight years. He moved to St. Joseph and was employed as service manager for Tenvoorde Ford. He was then employed as service manager for Sears Automotive Center. Roman retired in 1985. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Council # 7057, and the Rice Sports-mans Club.
Survivors include his wife Rose, children; Karen Schindler (Ray) Sartell, Neil Spanier (Diane) St. Joseph, Betty Leither (Duane) Spicer, Terry Spanier (Kim) Poplarville MS, Judy Knettel (Roger Weishalla) Sauk Rapids, Pennie Field (Chris) Cold Spring, Pam Yurczyk (Jeff) Sartell, Patty Loso (Neil) St. Joseph, brother and sisters; Orville Spanier (Jeanette) Farming, Dolores Klein, St. Cloud, Viola Backes (Elmer Schwinghammer) Waite Park, Dorothy Zumwalde (Wally) Richmond, former daughter in law, Louise Honl, Rice, 25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Melvin Spanier January 2nd, 1979, three grandchildren, Sandra Spanier, Jennifer and Jack Leither, brothers; Arnold, Oswald, Leonard, Robert, and Gilbert Spanier.
