The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at Saint Benedict's Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn., for Sister Walburga Dingmann, who died on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Saint Scholastica Convent, Saint Cloud. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent from 1-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, or for a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict's Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Saint Benedict's Monastery.
S. Walburga (Hermina) was born to Henry and Angela (Koetter) Dingmann on May 24, 1908, near Foxholm, N.D. Later, when Hermina was eight years old, her family moved to a farm near Farming, Minn. On November 3, 1932, she was received into the novitiate as S. Walburga. On July 11, 1934, she professed first monastic vows and on July 11, 1937, she made her perpetual profession. She celebrated her 70th anniversary as a Benedic-tine Sister in 2004.
S. Wal-burga served in the domestic arts as cook, laundress, housekeeper and seamstress at St. Joseph's Home, St. Cloud; St. Joseph's Orphanage in St. Paul; and at convents in White Earth, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Freeport, Long Prairie, New Munich, Cold Spring and Pierz. She also assisted in the sewing room and in the laundries at Saint Benedict's and Saint Raphael's. In 1995, she retired to Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud.
S. Walburga is survived by her Benedictine community and her siblings: Lawrence (Betty), Richmond; Ambrose (Florence), Belgrade; Martha (George) Mehr, Albany; Theresa (Roman) Lieser, Paynesville; Sister Angella, OSB; brother-in-law Roman Theis, and sisters-in-law Betty Dingmann and Magdalena Dingmann. She was preceded in death by four brothers (Gregor, Alphonse, Clemens and Leonard) and two sisters (Emma Olmscheid and Barbara Theis).
