Leander J. "Lee" Haider, age 76 of Elrosa died Monday, March 29, 2004 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Rev. LeRoy Scheierl officiated with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Leander Haider was born on January 19, 1928 in Lake George Township, Stearns County, Minn. to Henry and Rose (Fuchs) Haider. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Meyer on Sept. 4, 1950 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. The couple farmed south of Elrosa until 1976 when they moved to town. Leander continued helping his son with his farming operation. He also was a part-time milk truck driver. The couple spent their winters in Arizona. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leander's favorite pastimes were traveling, fishing, and dancing. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa, Knights of Columbus and the Greenwald Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Haider of Elrosa; children, Gary (Kathy) Haider of Elrosa, Karen (Larry) Thostenson of Melrose, Jean (Curt) Larson of Willmar, Joan (Rollie) Hoven of Camarillo, Calif, and Brenda (George) Kochmann of Paynesville; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Valeria Bertram of Belgrade, Rita (Lyle) Hustad of St. Cloud, Leona (Al) Bertram of Greenwald, Vincent (Donna) Haider of Elrosa, Rose (Phil) Meyer of Greenwald, Eugene (Jean) Haider of Elrosa and Henry "Butch" (Margie) Haider, Jr. of Melrose.
Leander was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Duane Haider. Serving as casket bearers were Brad Haider, Todd Haider, Dustin Thostenson, Tessa Thostenson, Shawn Hoven, Tiffany Hoven, Alysha Hoven, Jaime Larson, Ashley Larson and Tyler Kochmann. Serving as cross bearer was Breana Kochmann and scripture bearer was Shanna Schiffler. Lectors were Kathy Haider and Angela Friedrichs. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
