The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Edwina Meyer, age 95 of Albany will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 25 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Edwina died Tuesday at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home, where she has lived for the past 9 years. There will be a visitation from 5-8:00 PM Thursday and again after 9:30 AM Friday at the Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home in Albany. Seven Dolors Christian Mothers and the St. Anns Society will pray at 6:00 PM, with Seven Dolors parish prayers following at 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home in Albany.
Edwina was born June 2, 1911 in Meire Grove to Simon and Rose (Schwegman) Marthaler. She married Herman Meyer on October 7, 1931 in Meire Grove. The couple lived in Meire Grove before moving to Albany in 1937. Edwina was a homemaker while her children were young. When she was in her 50's, Edwina became employed at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home, where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany, Seven Dolors Christian Mothers, St. Anns Society, the St. Anns Mission Group, Legion of Mary, Albany Senior Citizens, Hands of Hospitality and the Mother of Mercy Auxiliary.
Edwina is survived by her five children; Alvin (Virginia) Meyer, Mokena, IL; Harvey (Annette) Meyer, Naperville, IL; Marilyn (Leo) Holl, Albert Lea; Kenneth (Rita) Meyer, Richmond; Linda (Gary) Knox, Coon Rapids; her sisters, Mayme Imdieke, Greenwald and Lydia Schutzentenberg, Melrose. Edwina is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marie Marthaler, Meire Grove; Loretta Meyer, Albany and Marcella Lensing, Melrose; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great- great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman on January 11, 1981, her brothers, John, Albert, Aloys, Ervin, Laurence and Gilbert and one great-granddaughter, Jaclyn Eckert.
