Florian C. Gude

GUDE, Florian C. died on Sept. 27, 2016, at the age of 92.
He was born in St. Joseph, FL, on May 19, 1924. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Joseph. He served as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and was a founding member of the board of directors of San Antonio Citizens Credit Union serving 54 years. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was co-owner of Gude Brothers Construction Company; he was also a citrus grower and farmer, as well as an avid hunter and fisherman.
He met his beloved wife, Sylvia Govreau Gude, in 1942. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together they raised six daughters and welcomed five sons-in-law into the family. Florian was predeceased by his parents, Clemens Gerhard and Mary Bichsel Gude; his beloved wife, Sylvia; his brother, Staff Sergeant Leonard E. Gude; his sisters, Eda Barthle (Louis), Cecelia Scharber (John), Mildred Scharber (Bill), and Agnes McCarthy (John); his daughters, Donna Gude and Marilyn Susan Kelly; and his son-in-law, Lilbert Stephen Hawkins.
In addition, he is survived by four children, Nancy (Ben), Debbie Hawkins, Connie Parsons (Harry), and Rebeccah Cardillo (Pete); eleven grandchildren, Shannon Fleming (Matt), Charles Kelly (Nicole), Bennet Pumo Jr. (Liz), Jennifer Pumo, Stephanie Hawkins-Polson (Stephen), David Hawkins, Claire Winfree (Wesley), Rachel Parsons, Jessica Cardillo (Adam), Peter Cardillo, and Erin Cardillo; and seven great-grandchildren, Grace Fleming, Crosby Kelly, Alyssa Pumo, Khai Otto, Isabella Polson, Caleb Fisher, and Leila Fisher.
He is also survived by brothers, Frank Gude and Carl Gude (Louise); sister, Sophie Storch; brother-in-law, Michael Govreau; son-in-law, Michael Kelly (Jeanie); numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, from 7-8:30 pm, followed by a rosary at 8:30 pm and a Roman Catholic funeral Mass on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 9 am. Both services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 32145 St. Joe Road, Dade City, FL, 33525.
