Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Herman J. Welle, 81, who died Wednesday at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls.Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery with military rites provided by Little Falls VFW Post 1112.Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Shelley Funeral Chapel. Parish prayers will be 5 p.m. today at the funeral home in Little Falls followed by a St. Mary's Christian Mothers rosary at 7 and Little Falls Knights of Columbus Office for the Dead at 7:30.
Herman Welle was born in Lastrup to Henry and Pauline (Ortman) Welle. He grew up in Lastrup and worked on his parents' farm until 1938 when he started working at Perham Hospital, Perham. He was in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and was in the Pacific Theatre. He married Agnes A. Doll on April 30, 1946, in Perham. They returned to the Little Falls area where he worked for the Franciscan Sisters. They bought a farm in Pike Creek Township, where they farmed until their retirement in 1981. She died on Aug. 15, 1983. He married Clarice A. Doucette on July 30, 1988, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Little Falls. They lived in Little Falls. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a life member of Little Falls VFW Post 1112 and Veterans on the Farm. He was also an active member of Little Falls Senior Center and was on the Council on Aging and Pike Creek School Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife; son and daughter, Mike of Blaine, and Mary of Little Falls; stepdaughters, Phyll is Wolf of St. Cloud, and Betty Braun of Moorhead; brothers and sisters, Henry and Harold of Lastrup, Olivia Faust of Pierz, and Lydia Flicker of Little Falls; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Hilda Ethen, Betty DeFoo, Marie Eckman, Sister Mary Carletta (Philomene), Ambrose, Victor and Norbert.
