Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church for Charles R. Kortan, 84, who died Friday at St. Cloud Hospital.Burial will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus and St. Paul's Catholic Aid will pray at 10 a.m. at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
Charles Kortan was born in Sauk Centre Township to Charles J. and Mary K. (Novak) Kortan. He married Ann C. Ostendorf on Feb. 4, 1939, in Olmsted County. They lived in Sauk Centre most of their lives. He was employed as a mechanic by Borgmann Implement, DeLaval Dealer in the parts department and later at Sauk Centre Campgrounds. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years. He was a member of Bishop Joseph F. Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Catholic Aid and was a retired Sauk Centre firefighter.
Survivors include his daughters and sons, Elaine Yaggie of Grand Rapids, Leora Sunderman of Sauk Centre, Rosemary Tountas of Orlando, Fla., Gale Schwanke and David of Coon Rapids, Charles F. of Osseo, and James of Moorhead; sisters and brothers, Evelyn DePree of Long Prairie, Mathilda Dusek, Helen Norgarden and Richard of Sauk Centre, and George of Paynesville; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Dec. 17, 1993.
