Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre for Olivia Schmiesing who died peacefully Thursday at St. Michaels Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Rev. James Statz will officiate with interment following in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Olivia Meyer was born March 28, 1918 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Deters) Meyer. On September 16, 1941 she married Henry N. Schmiesing at St. Johns Catholic Church in Meire Grove. The couple farmed near Padua in Stearns County until retiring in 1969 and moving to Sauk Centre. She had been employed as a clerk at the Montgomery Ward Store in Sauk Centre for ten years.
Olivia was the organist at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa for 45 years, retiring in 1988, and at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Padua. Since 1975 she had also been the organist at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre until retiring several years ago. She had played with Norb Athmanns Band and enjoyed quilting. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and St. Anns Mission Group.
Survivors include sister, Pauline Imdieke of Melrose; brother, Frances (Loretta) Meyer of Meire Grove; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Schmiesing on June 21, 1996; her parents; sisters, Katie Korf, Adella and Erma Welle, Hilda Meyer, Regina and Evelyn Illies; brothers, Henry and Bernard Meyer.
