Roman Frericks
Roman Frericks, 70, of Mountain Iron, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Services were held Monday, March 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia with the Rev. Fr. John Doyle as celebrant. There was a private family burial in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia.
Roman was born on Oct. 25, 1934, in Freeport, to Herman and Walburga (Beste) Frericks and grew up there. He was a graduate of Melrose High School and Dunwoody Institute. He married Annette Hoppe on Oct. 20, 1956, in Albany. They had been Mountain Iron residents since 1960. He retired from Staver Foundry in 1997 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mountain Iron; Knights of Columbus Council 1640 of Virginia, president and charter member of the Mt. Iron Lions; Virginia Elks Lodge 1003; Virginia Moose Lodge; Mt. Iron Utility Advisory Board; past youth hockey coach; member of Junior Achievement; YMCA volunteer and for Meals-on-Wheels. Roman enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Annette of Mt. Iron; four children, Bruce (Joanne) Frericks of Forest Lake; Cheryl (Matt) Olivanti of Virginia; Charles (Trudy) Frericks of Manahawkin, N.J. and Lisa (Michael) Skoglund of International Falls; 13 grandchildren, Adam, Tom, Renee, Laura and Angela Frericks, Kelly, Allyson, Nicole Frericks, Jenasia Morris, and Krista, Aaron, Jonathan and Paul Skoglund; three brothers, Elmer (Marcella) Frericks of Melrose, Raymond Frericks of Sauk Centre and Erwin Frericks of Fridley; three sisters, Esther (Alvin) Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre; Alma (Justin) Schulte of Freeport; and Louise (Donald) Haskamp of Blaine, and numerous nieces and nephews, and foreign exchange student Teofilo (Leo) Martinez of Puertto Monte, Chile.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Zwilling and Florence Austing and two brothers, Ambrose and Jerome Frericks.
