GODWIN, Mary "Missy," passed away July 18, 2004, in Brooksville, Fla. She was a fourth-generation Floridian whose ancestors were among the founders of San Antonio, Fla.

Born April 6, 1921, in San Antonio, she grew up in the Gower's Corner area. She was one of the initial members of The Church of The Nativity in Brandon and the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tampa. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Seffner, Fla., prior to joining St. Anne's Catholic Church in Ridge Manor, Fla. Missy was very active in many church and community women's organizations, as well as the Boy Scouts and Green Thumb. Yet she still made time for her hobbies of fishing, quilting, sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton "Red" Godwin, a brother, William Hancock, and a sister, Blanche Hatch.

Survivors include her brother, Lewis Hancock, two sisters, Ethel Barthle (Ignatius) and Tillie Stone (Rocky); children, Lewis Godwin (Jean) , Chris Meares (Herb), James Godwin (Elizabeth), William Godwin, Chester Godwin, Mary Godwin, Roger Godwin, George Godwin (Tina) and Robert Godwin; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will gather to receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, with prayer services at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4450 Co. Rd. 579, Seffner, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, FL 33541, in her memory. Published in the TBO.com on 7/20/2004.
