Individual Details
Richard Fenimore WILMERTON
(16 Sep 1812 - 20 Dec 1891)
Richard's father, Fenimore, died in 1823. On May 5, 1824, Paul F. and Rebecca Wilmerton were appointed guardians of their son Fenimore's five children, Richard, Griffith, John, Rachel, and William, all under 14 years of age. Richard's brother William eventually moved to Illinois. The other four children remained in New Jersey.
Delanco was originally part of Willingboro Township and for the most part was the Fenimore farm. The village was first built about 1850 when Richard Fenimore Wilmerton, with others, sold off portions of the family farm and developed it. He was among the original developers of Beverly, New Jersey, which adjoins Delanco.
Richard and Elizabeth were considered among the founders of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Delanco (currently known as Dobbins Memorial United Methodist Church).
