Elizabeth Phillips
(1846 - 13 Sep 1905)
In the family Bible of Richard and Elizabeth Smith in my possession, ther e is an entry for Richard Smith ( b. 29 June 1871 ) who was apparently de ceased before the family migrated as his name doesn't appear on the shipp ing records.
There is also an entry for Elizabeth Smith ( b.10 June 1882 ). On the dea th certificate of Richard Smith, 2 children are recorded as being decease d and Richard and Elizabeth would be those 2.
Elizabeth was a twin.
While Irene and I were in the British Isles in 1995, we visited LLanidloe s to try to find more information about the Smith family. Unfortunately , records were kept at another town some 20 miles away which we were quit e prepared to go to but it was a Friday when we were there and we were ad vised that the office did not open on Fridays and since we couldn't affor d to wait another 3 days, our quest was in vain. However, we were told b y a gentleman we met quite by chance and who happened to be in charge o f cemetery records that Smith was not a common Welsh name and it would no t be difficult to find relatives in the town.
LLanidloes is a small scenic town set in a beautiful valley, a really pi cturesque setting .Unique to the town is a market, located over an inter section and built centuries ago. While in the town, we found a Wesleyan c hurch which in all probability was the church where Richard and Elizabet h were married as they were Wesleyans but it was locked and in our limite d time there we were unable to obtain access.
