Columbus Roberson Alexander

(17 Dec 1890 - 6 Jan 1959)

Some sources cite Robinson for the middle name. Nothing conclusive could be found, so the common use of Roberson by the Alexander's was assumed correct. "Lum" was a veteran of WWI,having served as a Private in the Texas Demob. Detachment. He received serious injuries from gas attacks. Lum and Gertrude had one adopted daughter and lived in Lufkin. He traveled to Carthage by bus on January 5, 1959, to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, Sam LaGrone. It was a very cold day and Lum walked rapidly from the bus station to Hawthorn's Funeral Home where he died of a sudden heart attack. He was buried two days later with full military honors near his father's grave in the Deadwood Methodist Church Cemetery (tombstone photograph available).
