- Martha Coppock Tomlinson and sisters were captured by the Indians that killed her father and brother Bartholomew. She probably married John Roose at that time. He was a half Cherokee Indian, all this happened before she married William Tomlinson. (They were captives for about five years before being rescued by white people.
