The trip to Washington, D.C. was by train and it was a beautiful city with many wonderful sites to be seen. The trip from Washington DC to New York was by bus. New York was an interesting place but it seemed to rain all the time. The bus was then taken back to Washington, D.C. for another day of sightseeing and then the train back to Indianapolis.Education

Sunday, July 20, 1969: (The 45th anniversary is on Sunday 20 July 2014)1. The family (ID0001., Shirley and ID0003) gathered around the Black and White TV and watched the scene unfold -
2. I took some photos of the TV screen with a Polaroid camera I think (See Media/Ph9889.tif)
3. I can well remember the excitement and thrill of actually being able to see the events unfold so many miles away - The pictures on the TV were grainy and terrible but we thought they were fantastic. We watched for a LONG time because almost the entire day was devoted to this coverage - I am sure we watched the CBS coverage and it was undoubtedly Walter Cronkite who was doing the reporting.
4. It was chilling when Neal Armstrong actually stepped foot on the Moon and uttered those famous words "One Small Step for Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind." That is a saying that has been etched into my mind and probably all the minds of those who witnessed this event.
5. There were several other Moon landings and other people who landed and walked on the Moon but none were ever as special as the first one. I did watch the others with a great deal of interest.

This clock was purchased from the VanTassel Furniture Store in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana.ID0004's Social Media Comments (Ph10483-002):
So this was my Mom's favorite piece of furniture - her grandfather clock. As you can see, there was a brass plate inside with her name on it and the date she and my dad purchased it. My mom passed away in 2001. This clock is one of my prized possessions and her remains are inside the clock. We felt this was the perfect place of her remains, in her favorite piece of furniture and with me. I have fought to keep it working as clocks like this are very fickle. I was moving it the other day to clean around it and I didn't realize that I must have moved it enough to make the pendulum start going back and forth. Shortly after that I heard it chime. I was amazed and quite happy! I have set the clock and it seems to be working perfectly so now every 15 minutes I get a reminder of my amazing mother! I love the sounds of a grandfather clock! I am sure she is happy to hear it chiming as well. I miss you Mom.

1976:The home was built in the spring and summer of 1976 and the family occupied it in August. The former home of the family (67S#1 House) was put on the market and sold quickly. The family had to live in a rented house for about 1 month until the new home was completed. The contractor was Scott McKibben and his crew. The cabinets came from Knapp Supply, the drapes from Kendall's Drapery Showroom.
The property consisted of 9.5 acres of land and woods. The house was placed on a rise just in front of the woods and to the east side of the property. The gravel drive curved from CR450S up to the house. The home is a 2-story brick and vinyl siding with a fireplace. It had 4 bedrooms, formal living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast area, Family Room, Office and Radio Room. There were 2.5 baths and a 2.5 car attached garage. Later a 2.5 car detached garage was built to the west of the home.
The 9.5 acres was owned by McKibben Realtors and cost $11,700.

28 May 1978:
Shirley and I attended the Indy 500 Race with Mr. and Mrs. Berk. Mr. Berk drove. The tickets were provided by Borg Warner. It was a miserable day for me sitting in the Sun and the crush of the crowd when we left gave me a feeling of fear and claustrophobia. You had no control over your own body, it just moved along with the sea of people. Our seats were fantastic, we were directly across from the pits. Since you could only see a small portion of the track, you really never knew what was going on in the race. The noise was horrible!

Started building a Pond on the CR 450 S propertyThis pond was built on the west side of the house in a depression that was surrounded by trees. We had a contractor by the name of "Brownie" from Daleville do the actual digging. He brought out his heavy equipment and in the end developed a very nice small pond inside the circle of trees. It was a mud bottomed pond and we never stocked it with any fish. We did buy a paddle boat and spent many a relaxing hour just floating around on the water - it was shady most of the time on the pond due to the surrounding trees

Westport - Born 8/17/1983, died 1995 - He came to live with us at the Mound St house - He had been the family pet of Walt & Shirley originally as they got him as a puppy probably in Sep 1983. Sammy: ID1888 and ID0001 obtained Sam in the Spring or summer of 2001. Sam was born 14 Jan 1995. Sam was originally Shirley's dog. When she got cancer and had to be placed in a nursing home I took Sam to my house in Cape Coral. He lived with me and me, ID1888 and Chelsey. Sam wanted to rule the roost and terrorized poor Chelsey. Once Chelsey passed away Sam was our dog. We had a lot of trouble with him discipline wise - he had a nasty attitude and wanted to attack me for a long time. Once we moved to Indiana he settled down a lot.
- 26 Nov 2003: Operation for stones in his bladder - We picked him up the next day, Thanksgiving Day. After we got Trixie he became the one that was being terrorized for a change. Sammy developed dementia and finally was afflicted with Sundowner's Syndrome where he would roam and holler at night. On the night of 9/10 Aug 2012 he had a particularly bad night and it continued into the morning. We had Sammy put to sleep on 10 Aug 2012 about 1020am - one of the hardest things I have EVER had to do. He was 17 yrs, 6 months and 27 days old.
