Photo of Abbie - Caption: "Abbie T. Carey"
Abbie T. Carey is living with her aunt, Esther Tomlinson, on the farm where she has lived since five weeks old and which is situated two and one-quarter miles northwest of Westfield. She was born December 19, 1842, three miles northwest of Westfield, where Wesley Bond now resides and was the only child of Milton and Hannah (Davis) Tomlinson. She had eleven half-brothers and four half-sisters. Her mother passed away when Mrs Carey was a babe and she lived with her grandparents, Robert and Lydia Tomlinson. She was educated in school No. 2, Horton Hill, Chester, Grassy Branch, No. 7 and in Union High in '64 and '65.
Aunt Abbie was married to Cyrus Carey in 1885. He died twenty-five years later. Although having no children of their own, they reared Dr. Carl Tomlinson, of Cicero, his sister, Mrs. Alice Baber, Charles McGuire and his wife, Lula Davis McGuire.
Rarely in these days is the plain language used in the home but Aunt Abbie greets you with "How is thee?"
Her church membership was formerly at Westfield Friends, but later moved to Chester, where she has taught Sunday school classes for the past twenty years.
Her sight has been failing for the past years so she is not able to do outside work but continues to do a great deal about the house.
