Obituary: Galion Inquirer, (Galion, Crawford County, Ohio), Friday, 17 Sept 1909:
Philip Heckert, a farmer residing about two miles east of the city was found dead in his bed at about 8 o'clock Thursday morning. His death was very sudden. He had been apparently in his usual health Wednesday evening, and retired at his usual hour. When found he had evidently been dead for some time. The cause of death has not been fully determined as yet.
The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon from the house, Rev. Dr. O. S. Thornberry of this city conducting services. The place of interment has not been definitely settled, but it will be probably in the Brokensword cemetery.
Philip Heckert was a native of Liberty township, and was born Dec. 15, 1836, his age at death being 72 years, 9 months, and 1 day. He was a son of Jonas and Mary Elizabeth (Harmon) Heckert. All his life was spent in this county and he was always engaged in farming. He was married when a young man but had been a widower for some years. He is survived by three sons and four daughters: Joseph, Moses and David, all living in this vicinity; Katie and Lydia, also residing east of town; Mrs. Angelina Dawson and Mrs. Emma Mack, both of Chicago. There also four grandchildren, a brother, Jonathan, Near Lamert, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Caris of Milford, Ind.
Mr. Heckert had many good traits, and his death will be mourned by many friends, who also extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their sorrow. [1]
