Obituary
Dr. Donald Francis Macdonald, 52, prominent Bangor physician and surgeon, died Thursday at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He resided at 266 Washington Street, Brewer. A lifelong resident of Bangor, he was the son of Harry Eugene and Gertrude (Morrill) Macdonald. Dr. Macdonald received his high school education at John Bapst, his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine in 1936, and his medical degree from Tufts University in Medicine in 1940. After a surgical internship at the Boston City Hospital, he completed residency in obstetrics at the Boston Lying-In Hospital. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Air Force, attaining the rank of major. Dr. Macdonald was Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital, a senior staff member of the Eastern Maine General Hospital and a consultant at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital. He was a member of the Maine Medical Association, Maine Obstetrics-Gynecology Society, Penobscot County Medical Society, New England Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and Bangor Medical Club. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and of the Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Also, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Brewer Savings Bank and of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brewer. He served on the St. Joseph's Hospital building fund campaign. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katherine (Gross) Macdonald, Brewer; two daughters, Mrs. Judith Fueyo, Bethlehem, Pa., and Miss Katherine Jane Macdonald, Brewer; three sons, Donald F., Warren, R. I., William E. and Robert H., Brewer; a brother, Dr. Maxwell E. Macdonald, Boston; a nephew and five nieces. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Brewer. Friends may call at the Crowe Funeral Home, 18 Forest Avenue, Bangor, today and Sunday, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.Endnotes
