Summitt R. McCarter died at his home in Trenton Mich., Saturday afternoon, September 28. Mr. McCarter was a native and a former resident of Elk Creek, son of the late Willie F. and Laura Vaught McCarter.

Word of his death was received in Galax by his nephews, Dr. Van B. McCarter and William F. McCarter.

Following a Masonic service in Trenton, today the body will be sent to Wright's Funeral Home in Independence.

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon at Jerusalem Methodist Church near Elk Creek. The body will lie in state at the church from one o'clock until two.

Surviving is Mrs. McCarter the former Annie Vaughan, of Independence; the two nephews; and two nieces, Mrs. Mary Nell Bourne, of Richmond and Elk Creek, and Mrs. Lloyd Brooks of Richmond.

Funeral services for Summitt Reece McCarter, 59, who died at his home in Trenton, Mich. (Detroit suburb), Saturday afternoon, September 28, were held at Jerusalem Methodist Church, on the Spring Valley Circuit, Wednesday (Oct 2) at 2:00 p.m.

The Rev. B. G. Keebler, pastor of the church, and the Rev. G. Cleve Rhudy, pastor of the Flatridge Circuit, conducted the services.

The Jerusalem Church choir sang "Golden Bells," "The Home Over There" and "In the Land Wehre We'll Never Grow Old."

Mrs. E. F. McLean, Fries was pianist for the services.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

The body arrived in Bluefield W. Va., late Tuesday afternoon, and was taken to Wright's Funeral Home in Independence where it remained until time to be taken to the church for one hour before the services.

Pallbearers were Lester Rhudy, Everett Burris, Raymond Bourne, Harley Phillips, Steve Rhudy, Albert Jackson, and Henry Bourne.

Friends of the community most of whom had know the deceased in earlier years, carried the flowers.

Mr. McCarter is survived by his wife, the former Miss Annie Nell Vaughan, daughter of the late J. W. A. Vaughan, Independence. He was the son of the late Willie F. McCarter and Mrs. Laura Vaught McCarter, who resided near Fallville and Elk Creek. Among survivors are two nephews, Dr. Van B. McCarter and William F. McCarter both of Galax, and two nieces, Mrs. Mary Nell Bourne of Richmond and Elk Creek, and Mrs. Lloyd Brooks, Richmond.

For almost 29 years, Mr. McCarter had been employed as a bookkeeper for Chrysler Motor Corporation.
