Katherine McCarter Ennis, 82, of Norfolk and formerly of Elk Creek, died Jan. 25, 1987 in DePaul Hospital in Norfolk.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel Monroe McCarter and Eugenia Clark McCarter and was the widow of Edward V. Ennis, Sr. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ennis was a graduate of the University of Virginia and Hiwassee Junior College, Madisonville, Tenn., and had taught in public schools in Southwext Virginia and Tennessee for many years before moving to Norfolk. She was a past president of the Norfolk Women's Club and Tidewater Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians. She was a past president of the Wesleyan Service Guild, Norfolk District, Virginia Conference and Southeastern Jurisdiction, and was an ordained deaconess. She was director of Peek Home, Polo, Ill., from 1961 to 1968, then returned to Norfolk where she was manager of Lydia Roper Home from 1968 to 1979.

Surviving are a son, Edward Vincent Ennis; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Harris Ennis, and a grandson Edward Vincent III of Saunton.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Jan 28 in Cox Funeral Home by the Rev. James L. Duley.

Burial was at 1 p.m. Jan 29 int he Jerusalem United Methodist Church cemetery, Elk Creek. Harold Delp, cousin of Mrs. Ennis, gave the eulogy, and was assisted in the service by the Rev. Tom Martin, pastor of the church.
