David HARTSON

David is said to have been in Paris, New York before 1795, though he may have returned to Connecticut for short periods afterward. We find vague references to him as a first settler in Paris. There is at least one deed in Paris Twp., and other deeds recorded at Utica, Oneida Co., 1804, 1806, 1810. He is listed with the Militia 1809-1814 in Paris, New York.
With most of his family (except three who had been living with or near Connecticut relatives) he had left for Trumbull County, Ohio, soon after 1820. He lived in Ohio until 184?, when he went with several sons to Wisconsin, and settled in Elkhorn, Walworth County.
In the census of 1850, he is listed as David Hartson, age 76, in the home of E. Brainard, his son-in-law. Though his children made record of his death, there is no cemetery or death record in Elkhorn. There is also no record of the death of Olive, who was not living in 1850 (census), and it is supposed she must have died before they emigrated to Wisconsin.
What follows is a letter to David in Dover, Cuyahoga County, Ohio from his son-in-law Ashbel Upson who married Harriet Hartson.
