John Witter was a son of John and Sarah (Tefft) Witter, born in 1718 or 1719 probably in Rhode Island. John married Anne probably the daughter of Peter Davis, a Quaker minister, on 7 Sept. 1740. John and Anne stayed in Rhode Island. John held many colony appointments including Overseer of the Poor and Councilman.
