John Witter was born March 11, 1677 in Stonington Connecticut His parents were Josiah Joseph and Sarah Crandall Witter. His grandfathers had issues with the courts over their Baptist faith. John married first Sarah Tefft in Rhode Island. They received a 203 acre land grant, had children and stayed in Rhode Island. John remarried in 1725 Mary Lewis, also a widow.
