John Witter was born March 11, 1677 in Stonington Connecticut, still a colony. His parents were Josiah and Sarah Crandall Witter. His grandfathers had legal issues over their Baptist faith. John married Sarah Tefft in Rhode Island. They received a 203 acre land grant, had children and stayed in Rhode Island. John was a member of the First Sabbatarian Church.
