John held various jobs: town clerk, councilman, assemblyman and town treasurer. He was once brought before the court for selling and/or drinking strong liquor. He married Rebecca Scott after first wife Mary died.

The Councill haveing so Considered and weighed as aforesd doe by these presents declare the said Will to be wholy invalied and null in the law- Rebecca presented a will she said was John Whipple'sthe Court disagreed. His estate was in the courts for a year as Rebecca and John and Mary Whipple Olney's children worked things out- no source, a story.
