March 30, 1676, Providence was attacked, American Indidans burned most of the houses, the mill, the tannery, the miller's house. John Smith Jr., the miller, also the town clerk and had the town records in his possession. The records were thrown from the flames into the pond today they show both water and fire damage. John and Sarah were most likely responsible for saving the records.Civil
