Epenetus Olney

(1634 - June 3, 1698)

Epenetus Olney was the second son of Thomas and Mary Ashton Olney. He was born in Hertfordshire, England and baptized in the parish, St Albans. He was 1 year old when his family sailed to America. They were in Boston for awhile then moved to Providence and were early settlers with Roger Williams. Epenetus married Mary Whipple in May of 1666. That same year he took the Oath of Allegiance and was a land owner. Epenetus was a tavern keeper. In his community he was a deputy, on the town council and more. He built a house that stood at least 193 years until it was demolished in 1898.
