Captain Jonathan Brockway's Company in Col. Enoch Hale's Regiment marched on the 8 July 1777 on the first alarm at Fort Ticonderoga. They marched 40 miles from Washington, Cheshire County, New Hampshire to Cavendish, Vermont. There they received orders to return home. Capt. Brockway was paid 10 shillings for the 40 miles travel out (3 pence per mile) and 6 shillings 9 pence for the 40 miles travel back (2 pence per mile). His wages were 8 shillings per day -- 1 pound 12 shillings. With the travel allotment, the total came to 2 pounds 8 shillings 8 pence.Miscellaneous

Advertisement for sale at auction on 23 August 1814, "if not previously disposed of by private sale, that valuable and handsome situation, where the subscriber [Jonathan Brockway] now lives, in Washington, N.H. consisting of a farm containing 160 acres of land, under good improvement, with a good young orchard: also, including an excellent stream, with good fall, and machinery, on which now stands one grist mill and saw mill, one oil mill, and a new distillery: The other buildings are, a double two story house, with out houses -- one barn, shed, cider mill, and blacksmith's shop -- Also, cattle and farming tools, too numerous to insert in an advertisement."Endnotes
