In the 1860 Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois census H. G. Bartlett is living with his wife and two children as a carpenter.
On 28 May 1861 Elders Horace Bartlett and Charles Alderman established the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Branch at Marengo City, McHenry County, Illinois.
In the 1870 Marengo City, McHenry County, Illinois census Horace Bartlett is living as a carpenter with his second wife Elizabeth, two children, and his mother.
In the 1880 Fayette, Decatur County, Iowa census H. Bartlett is living as a carpenter with his family.
In the 1900 Hamilton, Decatur County, Iowa census Horace Bartlett is living in Pleasanton Town as a farmer with his family.
He was baptized 2 May 1844, at Prattsburg, Steuben County, New York into LDS by L. Heath and confirmed by Luman Heath and A. Norton (Note: probably Alanson Norton husband to Olive's sister Sarah). He was then baptized into Reorganized LDS 7 Oct 1860 at Fox, Kendall County, Illinois and ordained as an Elder on 8 Oct 1860 by W. W. Blair and E. C. Briggs. He was the Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois Branch President April 1, 1866-March 29, 1868. He was a member of Marengo, Illinois, Greenville, Iowa, and Davis City, Iowa congregations.
This short biography is taken from Early Members of the RLDS by Susan Easton Black: "Horace Bartlett joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 2 May 1834 [Note: 1844] at Steuben, New York, being baptized by Luman Heath. He was a baptized and ordained an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 6 January 1863 [Note: 1860] by W. W. Blair. He was the clerk of the Marengo, Illinois Branch and presented a report of the branch at the April 1863 General Conference at Amboy, Lee, Illinois. He served a mission in 1863 in Iowa with C. G. Lamphear."
This obituary appeared in the Reorganized LDS Saints Herald Vol 52, April 26, 1905: "BARTLETT - Near Davis City, Iowa, April 8, 1905. Elder Horace Bartlett, aged 83 years, 8 months, and 6 days. He was born in Cayuga County, New York, in 1821; baptized May 2, 1844 by Luman Heath, and joined the Reorganized Church in 1863. In 1883 came to Decatur County, Iowa (note: the family is in Fayette, Decatur, Iowa in 1880 census). He was married twice, to his last wife in 1868: she with five sons and one daughter survives him. Funeral-sermon by Bro. James McDiffit. The body was buried in the Pleasanton Cemetery."
