Mary Elizabeth Lucy DEGROAT

In the 1870 Census she is living with her husband, step-daughter, and first son in Marengo City, McHenry County, Illinois.
She was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 23 October 1870 by Charles H. Jones and confirmed on the same day at the same place by Charles H. Jones and her husband Horace Bartlett, Elders.
From the Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa, Thursday, August 2l, l924:
"MARY ELIZABETH DE GROAT was born in McHenry County, Illinois, November 24, l837, passed away August 8th, aged 86 years, 8 months and l5 days. She was united in marriage to HORACE BARTLETT in l867, and to this union were born six children, five sons and one daughter, who all survive her; HUBERT S., of west of Davis City; MRS. ROSY L. MCLAIN, of southwest of Davis City; FRANK H., of Golden City, Missouri, and TOMMIE G., of south of Davis City, who lived with his mother until her death. She also leaves to mourn her loss, a sister, 27 grandchildren and 2l great grandchildren.
MRS. BARTLETT came to Iowa in l880, residing near Lamoni for three years, then moved to near Davis City where she resided until her death. Mother BARTLETT had been in failing health for the past six months. She was a kind and loving mother, patient through her long years of motherhood and her last illness. In her life we found true motherhood, a kind friend, and a good neighbor exemplified.
Funeral services were conducted at the L.D.S. Church in Pleasanton, on August llth, by W.L. Morey. Interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery."
