Page 61 of the Dazey Centennial Book indicates he was the owner of some sort of building project company (contractor). Page 66 also indicates he was a substitute US Postal Service rural carrier and assumed full charge of the route in 1958.
The following obituary was taken from the Valley City (N. D.) Times-Record, Monday, November 21, 1994, Page 3:
"HARVEY VAUGHN
A memorial service for Harvey R. Vaughn, 86, Valley City, formerly of Dazey, N.D., will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Oliver's Funeral Chapel, Valley City, with Rev. Lawrence Rydquist officiating. Burial will be in Dazey Cemetery, Dazey. He died Saturday morning, Nov. 19, 1994, in a Valley City nursing home.
Mr. Vaughn was born Jan. 25, 1908, in Piedmont, S. D., the son of James and Emily (Elickson) Vaughn. He moved with his family in 1912 to Dazey, N.D. He attended Coleman School near Rogers.
He married Elnora Ludwig June 20, 1917 [ sic - should be 1927 ], in Valley City. They made their home in Dazey where he was maintenance supervisor at the school for several years. He also farmed, was substitute rural route mail carrier and owned a construction company. He retired in 1983 at which time they moved into Valley City.
Mr. Vaughn was a member of Dazey United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Clara (Mel) Bredeson, Devils Lake, and Helen (Dave) Gouveia, Santa Rosa, Calif.; five grandchildren, Rick (Dawn) Bredeson, Mick (Myra) Bredeson, Nick Bredeson, Mark (Darlene) Gouveia, and David (Lisa) Gouveia; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jamie, Ashley and Melissa Bredeson, Erik and Briana Bredeson, Megan and Ryan Gouveia and Zacery Gouveia; and a sister, Sylvia Edblad, Cambridge, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Guy; two sisters Irene and Lilah.
Oliver's Chapel is in charge of arrangements."
