Emily's last year in high school was in District 129, Farmington Township, Day County, Term ending 16 March 1900. She was 18 years old.
In June 1900 she is living in the Orrin Henry household. She’s listed as being born in Minnesota in April 1882, parents born in Norway. She is just nine dwellings away from James Moses.
Through the census reports, her birth place varies but it is general family knowledge that she was born in South Dakota. In the 1900 census her birth place is Minnesota, in 1910, 20, 30 census her birth place is North Dakota, in 1940 and her obituary it’s South Dakota.
The following obituary was typed from the Thursday, March 13, 1975, Valley City, North Dakota Times-Record:
"AMELIA VAUGHN
Mrs. James (Amelia) Vaughn, 93, of Dazey, died in a Jamestown nursing home Wednesday morning.
Amelia Ellingson was born Feb. 2, 1882, in South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received her education there. On Nov. 18, 1900 she married James Vaughn in Pierpont, SD. In 1912 they moved to the Dazey community. Mr. Vaughn died Feb. 4, 1968. Mrs. Vaughn lived in Dazey until recently when she moved to Jamestown.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey and Guy Vaughn both of Dazey; three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Lilah) Applegarth of Dazey, Mrs. Eben (Sylvia) Edblad of Jacobson, MN, and Mrs. Mike (Irene) Sorenson of Everett, WA; a half-sister Mrs. Clara Likness of Glendale, CA; ten grand children; twenty-seven greatgrandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Oliver's Chapl with Rev. James Oakland officiating. Burial will be in Our Saviors Cemetery at Dazey, in the spring.
Arrangements are by Oliver's Chapel.
