Life Story of My Grandma Bertha Alice Lowe Before I went to sc h o ol mother taught me to play the organ "Jesus lover of my soul" with o n e f inger. She played the guitar and organ sang with her sisters you se e . M y sister sang this song in her sleep the tune lingered. I told my d a d dy she was "my pretty Mama" Daddy said "no" she was" his pretty Mama " I t m ade them laugh to see me fuss over her. Daddy and Mother loved ea ch o t her happy they were. They lived in a two room house with a spring b eh i nd. Mother and Aunt Della were two close sisters. Mother had pne u m onia was sick at times. Aunt Della came to help her and be with her. M o t her had one brother and seven sisters, nine in all. Her father had as t h ma, she had a hard working mother. Her brother worked hard plowing in d r e ams the mule he called . All the children worked hard on the farm h e l ping each other. Her sister became invalid at eighteen. Couldn't walk n o m o re, she helped me with my homework. When I passed her house off the b u s h er mind was keen. Mother visited her often seeing her helpless made h e r h urt. Mother and daddy married at eighteen and twenty-one. They move d o u t in their little house on the farm. In just three months her daddy d i e d, was gone in one month more her mother passed away with no warning. T h e ir passing gave her sadness so soon. When she should have been ha p p y and gay. She bravely worked out her problem at home. She and daddy m a d e their home happy anyway. I grew up with love and peace from dad and m o t her. Had many good times, she taught morals true. She taught us to lo v e o ne another and help others. She babysat for all my kids when I work e d t oo. Helped them off to school with a good meal. Taught them obedien c e - to keep yard clean.Had pretty shrubbery around house, grass mow e d n eat. On mother's day we went to church with a rose. On saturday we w e n t to town down the street we'd go. We'd go to High Point to visit her s i s ter in spring. They would play precious memories and sing. Aunt Della s t a rted a reunion on her shady lawn, of their beautiful rock house she h o p ed all would come. Uncle Willie built the house from rocks from the c r e ek. Mother and Aunt Della visited a lot was neat. My daddy died i n ' 5 2, mother was shocked so, was hard for her to go on. and to let him g o . I h elped her with her problems on the farm She had broken leg, sickn e ss o f different forms. She had pneumonia I stayed fifteen days with he r i n t he hospital several times so she have no fear. She helped reuben m a ny t imes when in need. She loved him so much gave advice to heed. She s o l d land to neighbors nearby. She rented her land for tobacco and rye. W h e n we looked at TV she would patiently wait. Said she rather read and t a l k of scriptures today. when daddy read the book of mormon at night.Ma m a w as lonely - he said "you should read alright. She did read doctrine a n d c ovenants one day. She knew it was the true church, the right away. M o t her got old and sick many times. It hurt me to see her not feeling fi n e . One time when 87 she fell and broke her rib. We knew We carried to t h e h ospital, all we knew to do to see if they could help her miore than w e c o uld. She took pueumonia, their help was no good. She got weaker and w e a ker and passed away. My dear loving mother left us that day. To trave l i n a l and with my daddy to see. Whom we loved so dearly and wanted to s e e. I t hurts so much to not see her anymore. But we know we will see he r o n t hat lovely shore. She will be young, happy, beautiful when we mee t a n d so happy to see us again on the gold street. To see her daddy a n d m other and two sisters and husband, when Jesus comes back to earth a g a in. She is nearby us in the spirit world there. With all her loved on e s v ery busy there. We have had our family sealed in the temple for all t i m e. All our family and coralie my adopted sister. When we all get toge t h er that will be fine. Coralie has been gone a long time, I miss her. O u r f amilies can be forever, what greater heaven could we have at all If w e c o uld only prepare for heaven, and we can be ready when he calls. I a m s o t hankful for my dear daddy and mother, the good they taught me, al so t h e gospel true. We can meet all our kin sisters and brothers, with n o m o re sickness or trouble, the earth will be new.
