He was confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on Whitsunday, 1 7 5 4 ,at the age of fifteen years. July 1764, Thomas Koppenheffer purchase d 1 3 7 acres of land, one-half of a l arger tract in Hanover Township, L an c aster County, PA, from Jacob Moser E state. On Nov. 16, 1767, he pa i d t he Jacob Moser Estate 62 pounds 17 s hillings and 2 pence to the fo l l owing: 1. Catharine Koppenheffer, elde st daughter, 2. Rachel Mosser w . o f A dam Gutman, 3. May 31, 1769 T h o m as Koppenhoffer sold 137 acres of land fromthe Jacob Mosser Estate, H a n o ver Township, Lancaster, Pa. to Peter Hedrick for 149 pounds, 8 shil l i n gs, 10 pence. Recorded Jan 12, 1784. Peter Heydrick had located ne a r U n ion Forge previous to 1734 about 3/4 miles due north from Fort Smi t h w h ich was erected on his farm. Misc. Docket 1772-1776; page 339 - "On M a r ch 5, 1772, at the instance a nd request of Martin Hess and Peter Hed e r ick guardians over the estates o f Jacob Moser, Elizabeth Mosser, and C h r istina Mosser, minor children o f Jacob Moser deceased, it is ordered t h a ta citation do issue to Thoma s Koppenheffer and Catharine his wife, l a t e Catharine Moser one of the d aughters of the said deceased to appea r i n O rphans Court to be held at L ancaster for the County of Lancaster o n t h e first Tuesday in June next t o show cause if any they have why th ey h a ve not made satisfaction to sa id children of the said deceased fo r t h e respective shares of and in th e valuation or appraisement of the r e a l estate lands and tenements, lat e of the said deceased agreeable to t h e o rder for the purpose made at O rphans Court, held at Lancaster Sept . 1 7 76 and to abide the judgement o f thesame court." More is known of C a p t. Thomas Koppenhaver thant he other membersof the f amily serving in t h e R evolution due to the reserch of descendants of th is line and his o u t standing military Career. Although Capt. Thomas lived in East Hanover , h e w as born along the Tulp ehocken and his war career had much to do w i th f ormer neighbors and rel atives and many of the local men along the T u l ehocken fought with him. C apt. Thomas' Company fought under Col. Ti m o ty Green's famous "Hanover R ifle Battalion of Militia." These men w e r e known for thier accuracy in r iflemanship. They carried the long m u s kets known as "Kentucky Rifles", b ut of course made locally in Lanca s t er County by Pensylvania German rif le makers. Certification: Thomas Kopenhaver served as C a p tain of the Third Cl ass Lanaster Co. Militia commanded by Col. Alexa n d er Lawry, Aug. 28, 17 77. 3. Certification: Thomas Kopenhaver was e n r olled as Captain of a Comp any 6th Battalion, Lancaster County Militi a c o mmanded by Col. John Roge rs now serving at Chester under command o f C o l. Alexander Lowry 3rd Bat talion, Aug. 30, 1777. At the timeof the s u r render of Fort Washington, Nov. 16, 1776, Capt Ko ppenhaver's Co. of L e b anon Co. men were paroled and sent home in exchan ge.
