One source gives his birthdate as 1768. If this is true his mother wo u l d be Catherine Mosser/Musser. John migrated to Pulaski County, KY in 1 7 9 8-1799 where he was a farmer. Many years later he and some of his fa m i ly removed to Jackson County, AL John, his wife, and one daughter l i e b uried in the Jacoway Cemetery in Dry Cove off Highway 117 in Crow C r e ek Valley. Hannah purchased a tombstone for her husband; bought tomb s t ones are very rare in the greater Stevenson (Alabama) community befo r e t he 1840's. John Copenhaver was somewhat affluent, owning land a n d s laves. The cemetery where he is buried should be called the Copenh a v er Cemetry as John gave the land for it and is the first buried there , b u t it goes by the name Jacoway Cemetery because his daughter Mary wh o m a rried Wiliam U. Jacoway inherited the old Copenhaver place; both Ma ry a n d William are buried in the cemetery, hence the name. ("The Steve nso n S tory" by Eliza B.
