Henry Hopkins MOOR l

NOTE:
Henry attended school at Cowgill's Corner near Leipsic, Delaware. He worked on his father Abraham's farm until he was 22. He then hired himself out as a laborer. He received 8 to 10 dollars a month and room and board. He then rented a farm with his own money at Raymond's Neck in Duck Creek Hundred. Then he rented another 220 acres. After he married Rachel in 1855, he had rented 300 acres in Murderkill Hundred. In 1862, he enlisted in the 6th Delaware Volunteer Infantry, Company F, ( Col. Jacob Moore, Capt. Joseph Snow). He principally was employed in doing guard duty and served well and faithfully. He and Rachel moved their family to his father's farm in Little Creek Hundred in 1865, after his father Abraham died. By then Rachel and Henry had 6 children and they moved in with his mother Nancy. In1877, they lived at a farm on River Road south of New Castle. It was called the"Hamburg Farm".Then in 1878, they moved to Devondale. They rented that farm for many years. It was owned by the Hon.Thomas Holcomb. and was 340 acres. Henry raised livestock, cultivated grain, and also established a dairy. In the early years, his 3 sons- Abraham, Sam, and Harry did the farming. Henry became the "overseer".
