Notes
Birth
The best evidence of his birth date is his marriage record from Lomza, Poland. It gives 1848. The 1900 Census lists January 1851. I have selected January 1848.Immigration
He arrived on the SS Samaria which sailed from Liverpool, England via Queenstown, Ireland. He started his trip on July 26, 1889 sailing from Hamburg Germany to Grimsby, England on board the SS Hudderfield. He probably traveled by train across England to Liverpool.City Directory (Fam)
A spreadsheet of Moshontz city directory entries in Cleveland from 1894 to 1924 is available in [E-0937].Census (family)
They were living at 27 Liberal St. which they owned with a mortgage. He was a cloak presser and could not read nor write nor could he speak English; he had been unemployed for 6 months. She could read and write and speak English. She had immigrated in 1891.
The Lomza Russian Period Birth Indexes (Mormon Films) report that in 1882 the following six births were reported in the town of Piatnica (which is a village outside Lomza): Chaia Feijga, Meier, Wolf, Oszer, Judka and Sora.
The father's name is Jankiel Moszk Benjuszowicz (son of Benjamin). The 1900 U.S. Census reports 7 children of which 3 were deceased. Meier is Meyer. Wolf is probably William and Osher is probably Harry. Chaja Feijga is Fannie Celia. The other three probably died before 1900.
Census (family)
They were renting at 2538 E 50th St. They both could speak English. He was naturalized and not employed.Endnotes
